On behalf of the Lawndale High School faculty and staff, I welcome you to the 2011-2012 school year. Last year, we spoke of unprecedented change in our district. Now, we see the fruits of our labor begin to pay off. We spoke of the way in which people view change, as well. No matter what the initial trepidation, the changes undergone at Lawndale have been done so with a single thought in mind – to enhance the lives of students. While physical changes are apparent on the Lawndale campus, that which remains constant is rich tradition and a dedicated staff who honor the code of academic excellence.

I have enjoyed a twenty-five year career. For well over a decade I have had the opportunity to lead instruction at some of the finest high schools in California. Yet, I can say with conviction, that since my arrival in Lawndale, I have received more satisfaction than ever before in my administrative career. Here, I have discovered that it is easy to be a high school principal when you are surrounded by wonderful students, caring parents and a dedicated, child-centered staff.

Lawndale High School is a comprehensive, award winning, college preparatory high school with the goal of enhancing the lives of children by personalizing education. Our counseling services have expanded to ensure that students receive the quality guidance they deserve. The growth of academies and special programs serve as a testament to our commitment to uphold the district vision of providing students with both academic and career-technical skills in order to give them requisite tools to experience success in a four-year university and/or obtain an industry job from a variety of career pathways. Currently, we are expanding course offerings in the Biomedical Careers Academy, the Academy of Media Arts, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), and the Marine Science Academy. In addition to the existing programs, we have also begun work to form a Cardinal Academy which will focus on a mentoring and guidance approach to student success. All of our programs are grounded by projects-based small learning communities which foster relationships that will positively impact students’ future decision-making.

Lawndale High School, Home of the Cardinals has much to offer to such a deserving student body. I am proud to be a part of this educational community. I welcome and encourage all who desire to be an active member of the Cardinal family, to participate in our success. Contrary to popular belief, high school is the most critical time of need for your sons and daughters. To that end, an educational institution is only as successful as the parents, community members, and educators who comprise it. By that mark, we are a very, very good institution.

Whether through athletics, clubs, academy advisory, PTSA, or student government, there is an avenue for every student and parent to have a voice in the vision and progress of the school. Thank you, to all who support our endeavor. I look forward to another outstanding and productive school year.

And as always…go Cardinals!
