Description

Welcome to Advanced Placement United States History.  AP U.S. History is a challenging course that is designed to be the equivalent of a freshman college course taught at the high school level. It is a year long survey course that covers the age of exploration to the present.  Solid reading and writing skills, along with a considerable amount of time will be necessary to succeed.  Emphasis will be placed on critical thinking skills, essay writing, and the utilization of primary source documents as a way to fully understand the history of the United States.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Master a broad body of knowledge
Demonstrate an understanding of chronology as it relates to themes throughout history
Use primary and secondary sources (maps, letters, graphs, music, pictures) to gain understanding of an event as well as to support an argument
Effectively use analytical skills in all areas of study
Prepare for and successfully pass the national Advanced Placement Exam

I would encourage students to begin following current events in the United States and around the globe. This is a crucial period in American history, and any time you spend following domestic and international events will be invaluable in both your education and future as citizens.

As always, you can contact me at [email protected] for any additional information.

The United States Advanced Placement Exam is May 8th, 2009.
