Description
Welcome to Advanced Placement United States History. AP U.S. History is a challenging course that is designed to be the equivalent of a freshman college course taught at the high school level. It is a year long survey course that covers the age of exploration to the present. Solid reading and writing skills, along with a considerable amount of time will be necessary to succeed. Emphasis will be placed on critical thinking skills, essay writing, and the utilization of primary source documents as a way to fully understand the history of the United States.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Master a broad body of knowledge
Demonstrate an understanding of chronology as it relates to themes throughout history
Use primary and secondary sources (maps, letters, graphs, music, pictures) to gain understanding of an event as well as to support an argument
Effectively use analytical skills in all areas of study
Prepare for and successfully pass the national Advanced Placement Exam

I would encourage students to begin following current events in the United States and around the globe. This is a crucial period in American history, and any time you spend following domestic and international events will be invaluable in both your education and future as citizens.

Chapter Nine Questions.

Complete Essay: What if England had defeated the American insurrection?

How long could England hold on to its American colonies? Forever?

The French, having lost it's North American territories (in the French and Indian War), have now spent all their money on a losing war effort 3,000 miles away from home. Would the French Revolution have happened faster? Not at all? Imagine a world with no Reign of Terror. No Napoleon.

What would North America look like? Would the Spanish maintain its empire in the new world? Would there be a Mexico?

And what of slavery? The British outlawed slavery across the empire in 1833. Would a British America mean an end to slavery without a Civil War, and thirty-two years ahead of schedule?

Put your thinking caps on and get creative. I look forward to reading your essays.
