Creating your own “Modest Proposal”

Think of a problem that society faces today. Some ideas include: bad economy, unemployment, hunger, homelessness, gangs, child abuse, graffiti, lack of education, war, poverty, drug abuse, over-crowded prisons, obesity, global warming and healthcare.

You must pick a problem (you can choose one of my ideas or pick one of your own), and write a proposal on how this problem should be solved. You can be as zany and outlandish as you’d like. The outrageous solution should ridicule those who could fix the problem, but don't.

Like Swift, first give facts and figures - you can just make them up, since this is a satire - and have fun with it. For the rest of the proposal, you are simply trying to solve a problem for the common good.

You can use the attached graphic organizers to help you organize your thoughts. There are two different ones to choose from. Then you must write your proposal out on paper – please use complete sentences.

Your assignment is due on Friday, February 26.
