USC and Arsalyn Voting Simulation Research Program:
The second round of voting is here. We are very happy to have Lawndale High School included in this project. Again, thank you for your partnership!
To recap the context, your students are participating with their peers from a total of 44 high schools across the greater Los Angeles area. There are over 6,000 eligible voters in this survey.
Round 2 uses the same 19 questions as Round 1, but it reflects the narrowing pool of candidates. As part of reporting results, you will receive a list of schools and voter turnout.
Please note these important details:
School Name: Lawndale – Please notify students to use this simple version of your school name so that data may be easily sorted to verify school turnout.
Survey Link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ArsalynSim426
Please test the link to make sure there is no District firewall that is blocking access to the site. Early access to the site is for “View Only”
Voting Hours: The survey will be live from 7 am to 7 pm on Tuesday, April 26.
All questions are required: Only a completed form can be successfully submitted. (The option to select “not sure/no opinion” is available.)
Required email: An email is used solely as a way to match one student with one vote. The email serves as a signature and will not be used at any time to contact students. Actual elections do signature matching in California, and the Arsalyn Program will do email matching to remove duplicates as well as those email fields that are left blank.
All classes: To clarify, we realize that schools usually do not have all classes every day. The Arsalyn Program is counting on partner teachers to be inclusive of all their classes by finding ways to facilitate voting for those classes that do not meet – usually by offering some time before/after school or at lunch to help those students who need access or assistance to vote.
Multiple Use: The survey setting will allow multiple submissions on the same computer.
Results: A preliminary report of candidate results will be distributed by noon on Thursday, April 28. The full report of survey results will be distributed by May 11. The early results are tentative and like real elections will be audited.

Do students think that media coverage has missed the mark of focusing on policy issues?
Or is it more that the candidates (and their parties) have missed the mark of focusing on policy issues?
