BCA Juniors go to Cal State LA

On Thursday November 18 the junior BCA students went on a field trip to Cal State Los Angeles. Once the BCA students arrived to the university we were given information about the school by a couple of students who attended school there. One of the speakers was Star. She came from San Diego with an athletic scholarship. In high school she played tennis. Her first year in school she felt home sick. But once she started getting more involved in activities she no longer felt home sick. Her advice to us was to get involved in any clubs and events in school because not only is it fun but it helps you when you want to get accepted to a university.

The second speaker was a junior at Cal State LA. She had gone to a catholic high school. Cal State was not her first choice but it was the school that had offered the most financial aid. Her advice to us was also to get involved in clubs and activities in school. She also advised us to change our adviser if they aren’t helping because it is very important to have an adviser that will help you. Her last advice was to get to know our professors and ask them any questions we have because they will help you if you are having trouble.

After hearing from some of the students we were taken to the nursing school. The BCA students were the first students from any school to be able to see the nursing school. There was a dummy that students could practice treating as if it were a patient. It was fascinating; the dummy even had a heartbeat. Afterwards, the BCA students went on a scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt consisted of finding a student with crazy hair and school spirit and a study group. Next, we had to find the library, textbook room, and the food court. The first group to find all of those would win a prize. Overall the field trip was a success. The BCA students had a great learning experience and a great time!
